Alex Tropsha Awarded Exploratory Grant via NIH Roadmap

CCGS faculty member Alex Tropsha has taken on a new position as chair of the Division of Medicinal Chemistry and Natural Products in the School of Pharmacy as of April 15, 2006. Dr. Tropsha has been a UNC faculty member for over a decade and has a wealth of scientific and administrative experience that will be a valuable asset in his new leadership role. He has been an associate director in the CCGS since its founding in 2001 and was instrumental in establishing the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BCB) training program. Since its inception in 2002, Dr. Tropsha has been the program's director and spiritual leader, guiding it through the many challenges of mentoring, teaching, and funding with the support of other BCB faculty. Given the considerable time and effort required for his new chairship, Dr. Tropsha has stepped down as BCB program director. Tim Elston, associate professor in Pharmacology, has now taken on this role. Dr. Elston has played an active role in BCB as a mentor and as chair of its curriculum committee. Dr. Tropsha will continue to participate in BCB as a mentor, teacher, and advisor.
